‘Make Baby Laugh!’ provides fun and helps parents
interact with young children
By Eric Henrickson / The Detroit News
Nothing makes parents smile like the sound of their child’s
laughter. Peekaboo can get old, though, so in steps “Make
Baby Laugh!” (Make Baby Laugh! Co.) with some pointers.
The video purports to be for child and parent. While it’s
true that children enjoy watching other children, “Make
Baby Laugh!” is much more than a video for dropping
the toddler in front of the television and doing other things. In
the end, it’s a nice how-to guide for parents, full of ideas
for, and actively encouraging, interaction with their babies.
Clinical child psychologist Dr. Kori Levos Skidmore says even if
the games (called “Discovery Insights” on the video)
don’t make a child laugh, the interaction is still important.
To emphasize that point, the video comes with a “Giggle
Together! Insights Guide,” which explains what it is
about each activity that tickles a baby’s developing funnybone.
The video also includes an interview with Skidmore and many of the
parents featured in the program.
The video segments listed in the guide don’t match the DVD
chapters, though, so if you’ve got a favorite, you’ll
have to manually fast-forward through the chapters to find it. Available

“Giggle Together,” The
Make Baby Laugh! Company.
The TV reality show boom has inspired an interesting DVD.
From opening credits to close, “Giggle
Together” is all about ways to make babies laugh. About
30 couples of different races display their imagination and creativity
in stimulating giggles among their infants and toddlers. There’s
no plot. There’s only spontaneous hilarity.
Seems like making a baby laugh is simple stuff, right? Maybe not
when you’re a dog-tired mom just home from work. Maybe not
when you’re who hasn’t had much experience in being
around babies. The DVD not only offers suggestions for games but
is fully entertaining for the children to watch.
How touching to see one dad prop his daughter upon his belly and
play “Kiss Daddy.” Each time the child pops her head
out of the blanket to give a kiss, the daddy makes a silly face
and covers her head with the blanket again. There are 20 such comedy
segments and about as many songs, some of which are in Spanish.
This is a perfect baby-shower gift.
