Evanston, IL (July 2003) — One of the great joys in a parent’s life is their baby’s laughter. A new reality video series for families demonstrates gobs of ways to inspire chuckles in young children. Created by a mother and father with the help of a clinical psychologist and real parents and kids, the live-action video celebrates families that bond through laughter and shows the value of sharing a good laugh with baby. The initial title in the launch, “Giggle Together!” will be available nationwide direct-to-video VHS and DVD September 23 for a suggested retail price of $14.95 for the VHS, $17.95 for the DVD, which is loaded with bonus extras, and $9.95 for the original music CD.

Set to the tune of an engaging musical score that is enjoyed by the whole family, the 30-minute “Giggle Together!” video shows techniques and activities that tickle a child’s funny bone over and over again. Each activity was extensively tested with parents and children and fully vetted by a clinical child psychologist, Dr. Kori Levos Skidmore. “We wanted to show that these interactions can actually encourage bonding,” says Dean Rutter, creator and producer of the Make Baby Laugh!, series who previously founded the highly successful Apartments.com company.

Each activity in “Giggle Together!” shows parents demonstrating techniques that inspire young children’s laughter — perhaps it’s the absurdity of Daddy pretending he’s afraid of bubbles, or maybe the incongruity of the “Messy Tea Party,” where it’s perfectly fine to spoon the “tea” onto your Mommy! Babies and toddlers will love the active play of the swinging games and hide-and-seek. And what could be funnier than watching Dad let his son explode bubble gum all over his face? Adding to the jollity is the purple animated TickleMon, (a twist on “Tickle Monster”) who introduces each activity and adds to the good humor.

DVD extras include a music soundtrack that allows viewers to play full-versions of 19 songs, a “Greater Insights” section whereby Dr. Skidmore and parents provide more thoughts on making baby laugh, and “Meet TickleMon,” a profile of the delightful animated character who hosts the series.

The effects of Make Baby Laugh!’s video goes beyond simple fun. Numerous studies show the benefits of laughter for mental and physical health — and experts agree that it’s important to encourage a sense of humor early on. Dr. Skidmore endorses Make Baby Laugh! and its approach to child development. “Self esteem is the axis upon which a child’s whole life revolves,” she explains. “A healthy and vibrant sense of humor is one of the primary means of building and maintaining a child’s self-esteem.”

Skidmore appears at the end of the video to encourage parents to keep playing and experimenting with their own children to see what works. “Allow yourself to be silly and spontaneous and, just like in the ‘Giggle Together!’ video, you just might discovery your own ways to make your babies laugh” she advises.

By showing what real parents and children find amusing, Make Baby Laugh! can lead parents to discover their own ways of making fun at home. “Some parents feel reluctant to let loose and giggle along with their children,” notes Rutter. “This series will help parents realize that they can make their own babies laugh using the activities shown in the video or by applying the concepts they learn. As much as anything, we launched Make Baby Laugh! because the market simply lacks products that help parent use laughter to connect with their kids as they develop their sense of humor ”

“Laugh Together!” and “Chuckle Together!” will be released beginning of 2004 with two more titles following toward the end of that year.
